Cambodia is a country of extraordinary history and culture, from the magnificent legacy of the Angkor Empire to the difficult events of its more recent past. Buddhist traditions remain an important part of everyday life, with temples and pagodas found throughout the country, while colourful markets, small villages and rural communities offer a fascinating insight into modern Cambodia.
Away from the main towns and tourist sites, much of Cambodia remains overwhelmingly rural. The Mekong River and Tonle Sap Lake are central to life here, supporting communities whose livelihoods depend on fishing and agriculture and creating landscapes of rice paddies, waterways and riverside settlements.
Cycling is particularly well suited to Cambodia. The terrain is largely flat, but the riding remains varied, following quiet backroads, village tracks and trails through farmland and small communities.
